Antlers of Pride, 2021
In her artwork series titled "Antlers of Pride," Lilly Foster-Eardley explores the journey of self-identity and self-love through the metaphor of deer antlers. Much like the growth of antlers from youth to adulthood symbolizes strength and protection in the natural world, Lilly's artwork delves into the process of personal growth and self-discovery.
In this series of photographs, rainbow fluffy antlers are showcased as a representation of awareness and connection, drawing parallels to the development of deer antlers and the personal development of self-love and queer identity. The imagery also reflects the resilience of the LGBTQ+ community, portraying the inner strength required to stand against discrimination and embrace self-pride.
The large-scale sculpture of the antlers serves as a visual symbol of strength. Within the photographs, Lilly is depicted holding the antlers, adorning them as a crown of pride. This gesture represents armor against societal pressures and a celebration of individuality.
Just as a deer wears its antlers for protection, each deer antler is unique to its own, and as a display of beauty, Lilly embodies these qualities within the artwork, showcasing the development of her own identity and personal journey towards self-acceptance and pride.
